Following the extremely successful Christchurch Stands Tall project in 2014/15, we were excited to work with presenting partner Harcourts to bring a second public art trail to Christchurch – Pop Up Penguins!
Specially designed for the event, the sculpture was based on the newly-awarded New Zealand Bird of the Year, the Hoiho or Yellow-eyed Penguin.
The Hoiho is one of the rarest penguin species in the world and is only found in New Zealand.
Pop Up Penguins brought communities together to celebrate the city through creativity and leave a lasting legacy for children’s charity, Cholmondeley Children’s Centre.
The auction of 50 large penguin sculptures raised $1,007,300 for the charity.
