Cambridge Standing Tall

Overview

In spring 2024, Cambridge was home to a herd of 31 ginormous Giraffe sculptures, forming a spectacular free art trail.

We teamed up once again with Break and Cambridge BID to bring a second Wild in Art event to the city after the huge success of Cows About Cambridge in 2021.

Each large sculpture was designed and decorated by talented artists and they were joined by a mini herd of Giraffes, decorated by local schoolchildren and community groups involved in the trail’s learning programme.

The towering trail was completely free to discover from 21 March to 2 June and encouraged visitors to gaze up at spectacular artwork and explore new places while supporting Break, a charity working in Cambridgeshire to raise the aspirations of the county’s young care leavers.

Trail-goers could download the official app to follow the trail. Physical maps were also available at several hubs including Hilton Cambridge City Centre, Heffers Bookshop and Gonville Hotel.

Most Voted For

Anne of Green Gables

App players voted for their favourite Cambridge Standing Tall sculpture and Anne of Green Gables won the hearts of the city!

Created by artists Sally Adams, this giraffe invited you to step into the world of the children’s classic novel Anne of Green Gables and discover the imaginative, creative and dramatic protagonist Anne.

Sally is a former prop-maker who was worked on many Wild in Art trails since 2013.

About Break

Break makes life better for children and young people on the edge of care, in care and leaving care. Working across East Anglia, the charity firmly believes that every child, no matter their start in life, deserves a bright future.

Starting by building and earning trust, and then providing opportunities for young people to engage with, Break’s aim is to walk with those they support every step of the way to independence. And the support doesn’t stop there, a lifelong offer means the charity is there whenever and wherever they’re needed.
