Castles in the Sky

Overview

Castles in the Sky was a spectacular new sculpture art trail which intertwines Welsh culture, art and history.

From 6 July to 15 September, Swansea came alive with over 50 Castle sculptures in the first event of its kind to visit the city, hosted by Wales’ only dedicated air ambulance, the Wales Air Ambulance Charity.

For 10 weeks, Swansea’s streets, parks and open spaces became home to the trail of sculptures, each large one individually designed by an artist and sponsored by a business. Groups of mini castles also joined the trail as ‘little keep-sakes’, decorated by young people from local schools and community groups.

The large sculptures were auctioned 4 October to raise vital funds for Wales Air Ambulance Charity. The mini castles were returned to their schools and community groups as a lasting legacy of the trail.

Imagine a happy place where you can sit peacefully and read your book, or listen to a bird singing, a place where the sea is full oof magic and mermaids. Imagine a sky full of sunshine, hot air balloons, flying books and a meadow full of cheeky smiling flowers.
