Coraline's Curious Cat Trail

Portland, US
2 August 24  – 13 October 24
LAIKA Studios Portland Metro Chamber
Overview

Whisker-twitching art extravaganza, Coraline’s Curious Cat Trail, descended upon Downtown Portland in celebration of the 15th anniversary of LAIKA Studio’s debut film, Oscar®-nominated Coraline.

The trail featured 31 almost six-foot-tall ‘Cat’ sculptures, stationed throughout Downtown Portland. The trail corresponded with the release of LAIKA’s remastered 3D stop-motion feature Coraline.

Local artists were commissioned to hand-paint each Cat sculpture. It was the purr-fect celebration for Portland, where LAIKA’s cinematic brilliance meets the diverse talent of local artists, creating an unforgettable experience for all.

Coraline’s Curious Cat Trail ran for 10 weeks, was free to the public, and culminated with an exciting auction where an incredible $324,500 was raised to benefit OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

The event was a collaboration between Laika, the Visit Downtown Campaign, and Wild in Art.

Beautiful Decay

During the trail, visitors could vote for their favourite Cat sculpture on the Coraline’s Curious Cat Trail app and Beautiful Decay by Paloma Talaro was a firm favourite.

This sculpture embodied the beautiful nature of death, decomposing, and the interconnectedness of all things. Within the skeleton, life persists with the delicate Native Wildflowers.
