The Short Tail Trail

Luton

Keech Hospice Care
Overview

A brand new sculpture art trail transformed Luton into an outdoor gallery, inviting both locals and visitors alike to immerse themselves in the free, family friendly event.

The Short Tail Trail weaved its way through Luton’s streets, parks and public spaces with 90 large and small painted hare and tortoise sculptures. It was the second Wild in Art event brought to the town by Keech Hospice Care after the success of The Big Trunk Trail in 2021.

The trail was open to visit from 6 July to 12 September 2024. All the sculptures then gathered together for a farewell weekend on 27-29 September before the large sculptures were auctioned to raise vital funds to support the essential services provided by Keech Hospice Care.

Most Voted For

Gus the Galapagos Tortoise

During the trail, visitors could vote for their favourite Hare or Tortoise sculpture on the Short Tail Trail app and Gus the Galapagos Tortoise by Amy Bourbon was a firm favourite.

This design is inspired by one of the world’s many endangered species. Gus represented his species in Luton on the Short Tail Trail to raise awareness of the plight of his kind in the wild.
