Sobell House Hospice
Overview

The OxTrail public art project was open to explore across Oxfordshire for eight weeks from 6 July to 29 August 2024.

OxTrail featured a herd of ox sculptures, each uniquely decorated by local and national artists. They were accompanied by groups of smaller mini oxen which had been decorated by local schools and community groups.

The event raised awareness and funds for Sobell House Hospice, which provides expert and compassionate care to people at the end of life, and support to their family and friends. A special auction evening took place on 13 September and raised £155,000 for the hospice through the sales of the large sculptures.

Most Voted For

Northern Lights

During the trail, OxTrail’s app players voted for their favourite Ox sculptures and Northern Lights by David Cutts was a firm favourite.

The design was inspired by the Philip Pullman book Northern Lights which is set in Oxford. It shows the silhouette of the Oxford skyline against a dynamic curtain of natural light in the sky, which in the books links to a parallel world.
