Waterfront Whale Tales

Sydney

Overview

Thirty brand new whale tails swam their way to Sydney’s Western Harbour from 11 August to 24 September.

Waterfront Whale Tales formed a 6km harbour-side trail, from Barangaroo to Cockle Bay, Darling Quarter to the Maritime Museum, The Star to the Sydney Fish Market.

Thirty Australian artists were selected to each paint sculpture. Inspired by place, Australia’s marine life and Indigenous stories, they shared their own tale through their unique style and design.

Waterfront Whale Tales was presented by the New Sydney Waterfront Company, in partnership with Wild in Art, and supported by the NSW Government.

It showed the connectivity between the precincts and showcase stories of the past, present and future plans.

Visitors were encouraged to access tales of the waterfront via a dedicated app. By entering the code on each tail into the app, they unlocked rewards from local businesses including free offers, discounts and prizes, with a major prize also up for grabs for completing all 30 tails.

Net proceeds from the auction went to the Kids Cancer Project.
